Product info and Airwave's designer notes: AIRWAVE Rodeo - The Rodeo is a mini glider designed for high wind soaring and fun ground handling sessions. It’s fast, fun and your perfect companion on a windy dune.
DESIGN NOTES : As our sport expands and branches out in new and exciting directions, Airwave have been keen but careful to embrace them. High wind soaring is a clear and definite new direction that opens up a wealth of opportunities to get; our feet off the ground, and the wind literally whistling through our ears. The Rodeo is built for those of us that love that raw feeling of speed. Unlike speed flying wings the Rodeo is a mini paraglider. If it were a normal sized wing it would be a cool LTF 1-2 glider, but, as it is so much smaller than a standard wing, it is much nippier with agile, responsive handing to match. The Rodeo’s tiny size also makes it a great choice for super light pilots – from 40 kg upwards! The Rodeo is 17.5 m2, made from strong standard weight fabrics and rips along at 45 km/h with a 75 kg pilot.
Magic FR 5 The FR5 is significantly different to all the previous gliders in the FR series. So far every FR has had a similar line layout and 75 cells. The FR5 has 81 cells and the line layout is significantly different due to the unending quest to reduce line drag. The wing has more cells because the span is larger and unless we increase the number of cells we end up with such big cells on a comp wing. The line layout has 2 significant tricks to save line. Firstly there are only 2 C lines per side instead of the usual 3. Secondly the third A and B line are joined together saving another lower line. This design feature means more performance but it also means that B lining and big ears are no longer possible. If you want to go down fast you will have to spiral dive. The arc and the profile are also significantly different to previous FR's. The arc is very circular resulting in a wing with lovely handling and turn coordination and there is very little wobble or oscillation considering the high aspect ratio and the flat arc. The glider has a lot more internal reinforcing and the snake like plastic wire in the nose gives improved high speed stability.
The risers are equipped with a very effective trimmer system that gives a stunning speed range of 13km/h using just the trimmers. When the risers are all level the trim speed is around 42 km/h which makes the glider feel fast. Top speed is just under 70 km/h. As soon as you fly the FR5 you can feel this wing is simply in a different class to all previous versions of the FR. The significant performance improvement combined with ease and stability make this glider a real jump forward. This item added January 26, 2010 |
